Photography has taken Peter Fisher from remote Australian communities to the boardrooms of multinational companies, from editorial assignments for international magazines to private portrait sittings that unfolded over hours rather than minutes.

Over a career spanning more than four decades across Australia, Singapore and New York, he has photographed political leaders, artists, chefs, business executives, musicians, architects and families with the same measured approach: observe first, photograph second.

His work has appeared in leading Australian and international publications, advertising campaigns and corporate commissions, while his portrait of chef Gay Bilson is held in the permanent collection of the Australian National Portrait Gallery. Twice awarded the Master of Photography distinction by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, he was also named Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year.

Although the commissions have varied, the underlying approach has remained consistent. Time is the most valuable part of the process. Conversation comes before direction. The strongest photographs rarely arrive in the first few minutes; they emerge once the camera becomes less important than the exchange between photographer and subject.
